There has been much discussion in music circles about whether it is better to learn to read music or to develop an ear in first. The issue normally comes up in churches with musicians or potential musicans who would like to learn to play better and are interested in taking lessons. The question comes to mind as to whether they should learn to play by ear or to find a teacher that will teach music theory. Which one is better to tackle first and will get them off the ground running a lot sooner. What is your opninion on this. I personally see the benefit in both but believe that inititally ear training provides the quicker more practical and useable results. Are you a teacher or student interested in learning to play.
